Speaking of Bar Bands ...

Postby edmalloy » Wed Feb 07, 2007 10:40 pm

Sort of continuing what had started on the Swing City Thread.

Some of the great 60's and 70's bar band musicians - Frankie Czuri, Warren King and friends are going to be serving up some Red Hot Blues (pun intended) Friday at Moondogs in Blawnox, Ronnie says 9:30 but 10 or 10:30 is more likely.

For those of us who like our blues live, the music is sure to be incredible. There is some room to dance, if you are not shy.

Moondog's is in the tradition of the Decade, Fat City and the other great 60's bars. Great music, Great fans and Great barmaids.

I'll be there, anyone else interested?

Ed, do you know if Gary Puckett can still be found around town? (At least I'm pretty sure it was Gary...) I don't know if this was the same guy who performed with the band "The Union Gap" or even how old the dude is but I know in the early 90's he did the one-man-computer-accompanied-troubadour thing around town (Pittsburgh) and I know he used to play at Moondogs from time to time.
Finish that beer- there are sober kids in India!

Cool article including a history of the stilyagi

Sounds interesting. How bad is the smoke?

BTW, the Moondogs website says 10pm.

The place was absolutely packed.... I was only able to stand the smoke (lots of people = lots of smokers :-( -- can't wait for the smoking ban to go into effect) for half an hour before I decided to head over to see Sweaty Betty.

Hey Ralf,

Great picture!

It was an wonderful night. I made it til 12:15 and heard some amazing music The first set was all Warren, and he was "on!" Frankie came on in the second set and they did some great old rock'n roll (Boney Moroney, All Around the World, etc. etc.) and a lot of the songs from their Silencers days. I hadn't heard Remote Control for .. 20+ years and it sounded better and is totally more relevant today.

Even Domenic from the Decade was there and he admited that the Silencers were always his favorite act at the Decade.

These guys would tear up a blues dance at Edgewood some 5th Sunday, hint hint hint (& they'd love to do it)
