ILHC's goal is to represent the spirit of international swing dance in the modern Lindy Hop community. It's only February, and we have already drawn this year's pool of dancers from the towering snow-swept mountains of Ontario, the picturesque medieval countryside of Prague, and the home of svelte Vikings, Stockholm, among others. This year also has an incredible line up of bands the old-timers would say are "righteous" and would "blow the top." They are full of "cats" like Jonathan Stout who "swings with his boots on" and The Boilermakers, who "jam it hot." There's also more contests than you can shake a stick at, filled with dancers having the greatest times in their lives. Will you be one of them?

And now, English to Russian to Korean to German to French to Chinese to English: (I had to clean it up slightly, but nevertheless, these are all actual Babel Fish translations from these languages.)

ILHC' s aims today is to represent [the] cave spirit of the international dance of rocking in the most modern community of Lindy Jump. New Dance Classes in the South Hills

We have a hold on registrations for follows only for the Cha Cha class. We are still accepting registrations for couples and leads for the Cha Cha class.

We also still have a few spots available for the Jitterbug classes.

Yes, Shake off all that snow and come out for some great lindy hopping this Friday, February 19th at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

Lisa Matt will start the evening at 9pm and a Ed Malloy will conclude the evening. As usual, intro to lindy lesson is at 8-9.

There is parking, especially in the upper lot. Remember that there are actually 3 adjacent parking lots, so keep driving. They have been plowed, though the snow banks eat up some of the space so I would like to encourage carpooling and busing where possible.

PS You will probably have an easier time at PCA for parking then at SC. I got there at 10 and there was nothing within 2 blocks

Weds. 2/10 Jitterbug Class Cancelled

Please Note: Jitterbug classes with Joe and Leslie at St. Andrew's Church are canceled tonight due to the road conditions.

There is no class scheduled next week so the next class is on Wed. the 24th of February. Joe and Leslie will work on scheduling a makeup class and will notify class members.

Please also note: Lindy Hop 1 and 3 are due to start this coming Monday. You can still register online. Please pre-register asap if you are interested in taking class: if we need to delay class start one week due to the snow and street conditions that will be the safest way to get notified. Currently we expect to be able to start the class series on time this coming Monday.

PLEASE NOTE: Lindy Classes, West Coast Swing, and International Dance cancellations.

Blues and Lindy Hop classes with Juan and Sharon Tuesday night are canceled due to the storm conditions. The PCA and it's staff have not been dug out yet. Juan and Sharon are leaving the country this week, so we don't know whether we can reschedule this final class, but we will schedule more classes or workshops with them as soon as we can.

Tuesday night West Coast Swing at Absolute Ballroom is canceled for this week

Tuesday Night International Dance at Friends Meeting house is also canceled this week.

These are the only cancellations I have been notified of at this time, but PLEASE check on other events before leaving your house. The city has asked that all non-essential activities close (and while we think dance is essential, the city doesn't!) and even if we do not get more snow, the roads remain hazardous from the last storm.

There is less than a week now until Neon Swing rocks the Hard Rock Cafe Pittsburgh for the third annual Swing Your Sweetheart event benefitting the St. Clair Hospital Heart Fund. Have you gotten your tickets yet? The action starts this Friday with NSX hitting the stage at 9:30 pm followed by our friends The Jason Martinko Revue closing out the night. This will be Neon Swing's only public show this month and only local show until the end of March, so now is the time to come see/hear us. Take a break from shoveling snow and join us for a great time with great music that benefits a great cause. SparX 2010 Registration is OPEN!

A last message before our lovely SparX weekend of AWESOME starts!

1) We have class descriptions up! Check out our website here:http://filer.case.edu/org/swing/sparx-classes.php. It contains level descriptions and individual class descriptions! So for all you coming a la cart or still deciding whether or not to come, we now have descriptions for the awesome that will occur this weekend!

2) We need some volunteers! We're paying our volunteers $5 per slot. A slot is either one lesson or half an hour at a dance. We can use the help during all three tracks on both Saturday and Sunday, and during the main dance Saturday night. You'll still be able to participate in the lesson during your slot, but you'll be in charge of the table. At the dance, you'll have to sit at the table during your entire slot. Please email cwruswing@gmail.com if you'd like to volunteer (include your track if you want a lesson slot).

3) Detailed directions have been posted on the website! All of the class locations link to the google map so you can know exactly where you are going.

We can't wait to see you tomorrow night and over the weekend!

Pirate Swing Workshop March 12th - 14th 2010 - Ann Arbor, MI

Pirate swing is coming up quickly, and we have a few important things to cover.

Classes:

Class descriptions are up and available at http://www.pirateswing.com/class_descriptions.phtml

Advanced Track:

If you plan to take the advanced track, you MUST register by March 9th, 2010! Space is filling up quickly, and
we cannot accept advanced track registrations at the door. Since the Advanced track requires instructor approval, Advanced track classes will not be available a la carte.

Evaluations will be on Friday at 10:00pm during the evening dance. If you are unable to attend this and are registering for the advanced track, please contact us to make alternate arrangements (just hit reply!).

Housing:

You MUST register by February 28th if you need housing. We cannot guarantee housing beyond this date!

If you are able to provide housing, please include this information with your registration. If you aren't attending, but can still house people, please fill out the housing form at http://www.pirateswing.com/housing.phtml

Dances:

The Friday evening dance venue has been upgraded! We have gone from a 1450sq foot dance floor to a 3000sq foot floor! This will
be one of the first dances on the new floor, which officially opens on March 1st.

That's all for the business side of things. We now want to take a moment to mention some things that are important to us as organizers.

Planning for Pirate Swing began 7 months ago. We surveyed local and regional dancers to see what they wanted in a workshop, and the results greatly influenced the design of Pirate Swing. The electives, the lindy/blues focus, office hours, and even the long Saturday lunch hour were all direct results of that survey.

We have worked with all of our instructors to make sure that the classes in each track fit together like a puzzle, so at the end of the weekend you walk out with a picture, and not just a jumble of pieces.

This weekend is about social dancing and having a lot of fun. We really look forward to seeing everyone!

On January 30 we are having a dance (regular admission) at the Royal Place, there will be Jitterbug Lessons from 8-8:45 with Paulette and Allen and dancing to follow with DJ Radio Rich. Lets have a real BIG PARTY AT THE ROYAL

Tony Porco is on the mend! Wonderful!

WANT TO TEACH, We are looking for some members who would love to show off their dance steps to teach prior to the dance for 1/2 hour and for instructors for the Wednesday class at the Royal (can be 3 to 6 weeks class)

The Childrens Museum dance exhibition has been changed to February 13, from 2 -3 if you are interested give us a call or e-mail us at pajittebugclub@aol.com.

Boilermaker Jazz Band and the Mighty Wurlitzer!

The Boilermaker Jazz Band will be performing for the Pittsburgh Theatre Organ Society!

The concert will feature the Band plus 3 musicians including Mark Kotishion playing the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ! This is an amazing instrument that was used for silent films, and all sorts of other musical stuff dating back to the ragtime era.

‘Stylish Swing’, Workshop at Calvin Presbyterian Church

We want to remind you of our workshop this Saturday. Registration will start at 9:30 AM. We would like to encourage people to arrive early so we can get the workshop registration and optional lunch orders done by 10:00.

The workshop is open to both singles and couples. No partner necessary to attend the workshop. We will be helping everyone to meet new friends as we rotate partners and teach good dance floor and classroom etiquette in a very friendly environment.

We are all very excited about this workshop and are expecting a nice turnout!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the new Sunday dance at the Bulgarian Club in W. Homestead! It was great to see so many of our friends at the lesson and then more later for the dance.
